What is a Face Lift?

A facelift can be done to help restore a more youthful contour. It’s best for people who want to improve signs of aging in the face, including deep creases below the lower eyelids and between the nose and mouth, as well as jowls and a hanging neck. You can expect tighter, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin following your facelift procedure. Without the deep wrinkles and sagging skin, your face will appear refreshed and rejuvenated. But although this procedure can take years off your face, it does not stop the aging process, so you may need to consider another procedure in about 10 years.

Benefits of a Facelift

  • Tones and tightens sagging facial skin
  • Provides a more awake look
  • Makes you appear younger
  • Decreases wrinkles and folds

How is a Facelift performed?

Facelifts are generally performed under general anesthesia, taking between two and five hours to complete. A small incision will be made going around the ear and sometimes into the hairline. The sagging skin of the cheek and neck is elevated, the underlying muscle tightened, and the skin trimmed to fit the new contour.
Ultimately, this procedure lifts the cheek and neck skin in an up and backward direction thereby decreasing the hanging neck skin and jowls.

Preparing for Your Facelift Procedure

Preparing for any procedure means finding out what medications and lifestyle changes you may need to make before the procedure is done. Smoking should always be stopped at least two weeks before any surgery so that you are less prone to complications and are able to heal properly.

Facelift Recovery

You may experience some tightness of the skin and mild discomfort following the facelift procedure, which can be eased with medicine that will be prescribed. While most of the swelling will go down after a couple of days, facial puffiness may last up to two weeks.

During your post-op period, you should sleep upright in bed and apply cold compresses to reduce the swelling. In addition, your doctor will advise you to refrain from strenuous activity for about six weeks.

How Much Does a Facelift Procedure Cost?

There is no clear-cut facelift cost, as each patient has individual issues and goals. The best time to discuss facelift prices is during your one-on-one consultation with the doctor. At PHX Plastic Surgery, we are committed to giving patients the most natural outcome possible. We are happy to discuss your specific needs and possible financing during your initial consultation.

Is a Facelift Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have fairly good skin tone and elasticity, and you’re unhappy with any of the following:

  • Deep creases below the lower lids or between the nose and the corners of the mouth
  • Sagging facial skin
  • Jowls (loss of muscle tone in the lower portion of the face)
  • Hanging neck or loose skin below the jaw
