Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that can improve your body contours and proportion by removing excess fat deposits. Usually, liposuction is used to remove stubborn fatty deposits that diet and exercise alone have not succeeded in eradicating. Liposuction may be used on: the thighs, the hips and buttocks, the abdomen and waist, the upper arms, the back, the inner knee, the chest, the cheeks, chin, and neck, and the calves and ankles.

Is liposuction right for me?

The best way to determine the answer to this question is to meet with a trusted, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to discuss your treatment options. What should I expect during my consultation?

At PHX Plastic Surgery, the satisfaction of our patients is our priority. That’s why we place a great deal of importance on your consultation. The goal of the consultation is to determine if liposuction is the right choice for you. During your consultation, Dr. Jason D. Johnson will explain the full procedure to you and will ask you several questions including:

  • Why do you want liposuction?
  • What area(s) of your body do you want to receive liposuction on?
  • What are your expectations for the procedure?
  • What is your desired outcome?
  • Do you have any drug allergies?
  • What previous medical treatments have you received?
  • Have you had any previous surgeries? If so, what were they?

In addition to asking these questions, Dr. Jason D. Johnson will use your consultation to evaluate your general health status and any pre-existing health conditions or risk factors you may have, discuss your liposuction options, take photographs for your medical record, recommend a course of treatment, discuss likely outcomes of liposuction and any risks or potential complications, and answer your questions.

What should I expect before my liposuction treatment?

Before your liposuction, you may be asked to get lab testing or a medical evaluation, take certain medications or adjust your current medications, stop smoking, and avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements that may increase bleeding.

We will also give you special instructions about what to do the night before and morning of your surgery and regarding your post-operative care and follow-up appointments.

What will happen during my liposuction treatment?

First, you’ll be administered local and/or sedative anesthesia. PHX Plastic Surgery will recommend the anesthesia option that is best for you. Then, your skilled Plastic Surgeon and well-trained staff will perform the liposuction. The exact procedure will vary depending on your unique needs and desired outcomes. Dr. Jason D. Johnson can walk you through every step of the procedure when you meet for your consultation.

What should I expect after my liposuction?

PHX Plastic Surgery will give you instructions regarding your post-operative care. Liposuction usually requires minimal downtime.

What will my results be like?

As soon as the swelling and water retention that tend to occur after liposuction have decreased, your results will be visible. The results of liposuction will be long-lasting, so long as you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. You may notice some changes as you age, but your more refined body contours should be permanent.
